Klüber Lubrication Austria awarded Seal of Approval for "Workplace Health Promotion"

Accolade for successes in improving occupational safety and staff's wellbeing to European standards

Salzburg, November 2005 - Rewarded, awarded - a new accolade for the Salzburg-based company Klüber Lubrication Austria Ges. m.b.H. On 2 November 2005, the company was awarded the Seal of Approval for "Workplace Health Promotion". This constitutes public recognition for outstanding achievements in terms of staff's health and occupational safety. The yardstick applied is exemplary implementation of measures for workplace health promotion (WHP), meeting the quality criteria of the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion (ENWHP). The seal of approval is awarded for a period of three years, and must then be re-applied for. The initiatives submitted are reviewed by an advisory council of international specialists against five criteria: holisticity, participation, integration, project management and success monitoring.

For Klüber Lubrication Austria, this is a welcome validation of the initiatives it has for many years been taking to promote health and occupational safety. There has been no notifiable accident at the Austrian subsidiary of Klüber Lubrication München KG for around eight years now. In addition, preventive measures have been encouraged and carried out for upgrading staff's health as defined under WHP - a terms that covers all joint measures taken by employers and employees for improving health and wellbeing (not only) at the workplace.

Many topics, such as communication, time pressure, work posture, awareness enhancement (in connection with nutrition, back problems, exercise, etc.), that are crucial to staff's health are and have been addressed in intra-company health groups, where employees from different departments discuss and analyze their working conditions, and interactively formulate solutional approaches and suggestions for improvement. A steering group looks after actual implementation.

A whole series of technical improvements (draught exclusion, human engineering, etc.) have been introduced in recent months. Moreover, all staff were given opportunities to take an active part in various events, like spine care exercises, training in the fitness center, lectures on nutrition or communication-enhancing initiatives.
