Biocompatible release agent for the manufacture of medical silicon products

Chem-Trend Mono-Coat® 1989W acquires certification for use in the pharmaceutical and medical industry

, Maisach

Specifically for the manufacture of silicone rubber products for medical applications, Chem-Trend has developed a new, biocompatible release agent. Mono-Coat® 1989W is especially well suited for the molding of products such as molded medical tubes, protective caps and closures. The semi-permanent, water based release agent is certified in accordance with the USP Class VI panel of tests, and therefore perfectly suited for use in the medical rubber molding industry.

"Because of its high level of purity, its excellent biocompatibility, and its high resistance to mechanical stress silicone rubber is widely used for medical applications," said George Barton, Chem-Trend senior business development director for the rubber industry. "Mono-Coat 1989 W meets all requirements on biocompatibility and is therefore ideally suited for use in medical applications. In addition, the new release agent helps reduce scrap and delivers a higher efficiency in the production of silicone rubber medical products.”

Chem-Trend’s new release agent ensures easy release of the finished products from the mold and facilitates the manufacture of clean parts. Mono-Coat® 1989W features excellent temperature and abrasion resistance, and offers multiple releases with little to no transfer to the molded part. In biological compatibility tests conducted by the independent medical research organisation NAMSA, Mono-Coat® 1989W was found to meet the requirements of the USP Class VI panel of tests

With this second approval according to the USP Class VI standard, Chem-Trend’s commitment to the development of tailored solutions for medical applications is reinforced. Recently the certification was also granted to Chem-Trend’s Mono-Coat 1973W, which is used in the manufacture of non-silicone medical rubber components.

At the International Rubber Conference (IRC) in Nuremberg, Germany, from June 29th to July 2nd, the experts of Chem-Trend will be available for all questions concerning Mono-Coat 1989W and other Chem-Trend products in hall 12, stand 152.
