Klüber Lubrication at the SMM 2018 in hall A3, booth 309

High performance on deck and below

07/25/2018, Munich

High-performance speciality lubricants are a must in today's marine sector. Not only do standard lubricants quickly reach their performance limits in the face of extreme conditions aboard ships, but good environmental compatibility is another essential requirement for products used. Klüber Lubrication is presenting a whole series of new products for on-board applications at SMM 2018 with the motto "Plain sailing even in rough seas". The showcase focuses on extending the product portfolio to include EALs (environmentally acceptable lubricants). These include new special greases for wire ropes, high-performance synthetic gear oils and rolling bearing greases.

"Klüber Lubrication offers the complete range of speciality lubricants for the marine industry from a single source," explains Dirk Fabry, Business Development Manager for the marine sector at Klüber Lubrication. "As a result, we are able to cover 90 % of all lubricant applications aboard ships with both EAL and non-EAL products."

The new EAL Klüberbio AM 92-142 has made its mark on the industry, thanks to its excellent wear protection, exceptional adhesion and good water resistance, reliably protecting steel cables against corrosion, even when they come into contact with seawater. This lubricating grease was developed and approved in close cooperation with a world-leading steel cable OEM, who recommends it for initial and relubrication of its own steel cables.

Awarded the EU Ecolabel, the high-performance synthetic gear oil Klüberbio EG 2-320 is comprised of around 90 % renewable raw materials and is ultimately biodegradable. This EAL reliably protects gear teeth and rolling bearings against wear and premature failure, even under high peak loads.

Klüberbio AG 39-602 is a lubricant for open gears and highly loaded rolling and slide bearings, offering good adhesion and water resistance. Selected additives ensure an extremely high corrosion protection, even when exposed to salt water.

The new EAL grease Klüberplex BEM 41-132 provides excellent wear protection for rolling bearings that are exposed to vibrations from diesel engines, propellers and wave motion. This synthetic low-temperature grease can also be used at Arctic temperatures and significantly reduces maintenance costs, due to longer relubrication intervals and bearing service lives.

"In the Klüber Lubrication R&D department, we are already working today on solutions for tomorrow's challenges," explains Dirk Fabry. "One of these future solutions is the successful development of liquid lubricants with a functional water content: Hydro Lubricants. These are currently still at the development stage for the marine sector."

Klüber Lubrication Hydro Lubricants have recently been honoured with the German Innovation Award in the "Material Surface" category for innovative technology, as well as in the "Design Thinking" category for pioneering processes in development. Their benefits for shipping are obvious: they not only have the potential to meet the growing performance and energy efficiency requirements for lubricants, but the innovative lubrication concept also removes any worries about the lubricants’ sustainability, since it is completely based on renewable raw materials.

The Klüber Lubrication experts will be glad to answer any questions about tribology on the high seas at SMM 2018. Find them at Stand 309 in Hall A3.
